The Manifesto

AI for People and the Common Good

Artificial intelligence will help shape the future of Ireland. It will influence how we work, learn, create, communicate, access public services and participate in society. The choices we make today about AI will affect generations to come.

We believe those choices should not be made by governments, corporations or technology experts alone. They should be shaped by society. The Irish AI Alliance exists to ensure that Irish people have a meaningful voice in that future.

We believe Ireland should not simply adopt artificial intelligence developed elsewhere. We should help shape its future according to our own values, traditions and aspirations. Technology should serve society, not the other way around. Our work is guided by five principles.

Democracy

People should have a meaningful voice in the technologies that shape their lives. As AI becomes more influential in society, people must be informed, involved and heard. Decisions about our future should not happen behind closed doors. The future of AI should be shaped with people, not for people.

Culture

Ireland's language, heritage and creative traditions are part of who we are. As new technologies emerge, we must ensure that our culture is not left behind. AI should help preserve and promote Irish language, creativity, history and identity. A modern Ireland should be rooted in preserving and growing with an evolving Irish culture.

Capability

Everyone should have the opportunity to understand, use and benefit from AI. No one should be excluded from the opportunities created by technological change. We support education, learning and public understanding so that people can engage with AI confidently and make informed choices about its role in their lives. The benefits of AI should belong to everyone.

Community

Technology should strengthen communities and human connection. AI should help create healthier, more inclusive and more connected communities. It should support people, not replace them. Innovation should bring people together and help communities thrive.

The Common Good

The purpose of innovation should be to improve people's lives. AI should expand opportunity, support wellbeing and contribute to a fairer, more prosperous and more inclusive Ireland. Progress should be measured not only by economic growth, but by its contribution to people, communities and society.

Our Vision

We want an Ireland where people remain in control of the technologies that shape their lives. An Ireland where everyone has the opportunity to participate in the AI future. An Ireland where culture thrives alongside innovation. An Ireland where communities are strengthened by technology. An Ireland where progress serves the common good.

Most of all, we want an Ireland that helps shape the future of artificial intelligence according to our own values and aspirations. The future of AI belongs to all of us. By bringing Irish voices together, we can help shape it for the benefit of current and future generations.
